Somatic Experiencing® (SE), developed by international trauma researcher Dr. Peter A. Levine, is a body-oriented approach to releasing traumatic stress and restoring inner balance. In a protected and appreciative environment, you will consciously perceive your inner feelings and reactions. SE helps you to better understand and regulate your personal “stress traffic light” – the interplay of thoughts, feelings and physical sensations.
Trauma is neither an illness nor a disorder, but a natural reaction of the body to overwhelming events. It is caused by situations that overwhelm the individual’s ability to cope, such as surgery, loss, neglect, prenatal stress, natural disasters or seemingly harmless events such as a fall. The decisive factor is not the event itself, but the way in which the body and psyche react to it.
SE aims to transform the stress patterns and symptoms caused by trauma. People with traumatic experiences often react to neutral stimuli as if they were still in danger.
